Animating Information

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Animations can be found throughout the Internet. The vast array of websites published poses a significant challenge on users’ limited attention resources.

In more recent times, various kinds of animation are widely used on websites in order to attract online users’ attention. The growing use of animation in Web pages testifies to the increasing ease with which such multimedia features can be created.

The increased use of multimedia technology is changing the face of the Internet and Web-based media.

Animations are popular objects that users encounter frequently, if not all the time. They have been used for different purposes, from the display of information to the advertising of a business. Only recently IBM created an animation out of atoms (see it here). Some companies use animations simply to convey messages, believing they are more powerful than text within a limited area of display.

Recently, Innovate have experienced clients using this form of media on a much larger scale. Below are two examples that have recently been created by our clients.

The ring that helps you break bad habits (by binding your fingers together)

Emma Justice – Daily Mail

‘If all else fails, you can bind your fingers together,’ said a friend, trying to encourage me to give up my ten-a-day smoking habit.

Well, all else did fail and I’m wearing a £6.99 gadget that does exactly that. But will it give hypnotherapist Allen Carr and my nicotine patch a run for their money?

The double-ring Moderator is a bright plastic device that fits so snugly on your middle and index fingers that you can’t open them to hold — let alone light — a cigarette.

The Mother Of Invention

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Innovate Design features in the most recent issue of New Design Magazine (94). Editor Alastair Welch recently visited our design studios to find out what we do and how we do it.

“The workshop at Innovate Product Design’s Salisbury headquarters feels like a cross between Q’s laboratory for the James Bond films and the set of the BBC business show Dragons’ Den. Amidst the bare-brick walls, machines and gizmos, one half expects to bump into Desmond Llewellyn pitching a fountain pen that fires poisin darts to an unimpressed Duncan Bannatyne. It is a fitting home for a business that specialises in using design to help individual inventors and entrepreneurs realise an idea and take it to market.”

Dragons’ Den success for Innovate client BoginaBag!

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

There was success in the Dragons’ Den this week for one of Innovate’s clients Kate Castle with her ingenious solution for those caught short on the move. Kate secured an investment of £50,000 for a 30% stake of her business from retail sector expert Theo Paphitis. After a thorough grilling from the Dragons in the Den, Kate did enough to convince Theo that her product was worth the investment!

Kate approached Innovate originally in 2008 looking for assistance in the development of her idea primarily aimed potentially at the camping and festival market and we were more than happy to help! From here, our team of product designers helped Kate with the development of her concept and have provided support from this point onwards.
