Innovate Client Vex Box has now launched
Vex Box is a universal template for single or double socket boxes, providing a tidier and more efficient method of installation. Whether it’s new builds or refurbishments, the surrounding wall can be finished to a superior standard, as the product extends the box to be flush with the plasterboard.
The Vex Box comfortably fits both single or double electrical socket boxes and is manufactured from V0 rated high impact polystyrene. Offering a handy depth guage for efficient installation with 2mm depth adjustments, the Vex Box is easy to use as well as being strong and durable once constructed.
Vex Box came to Innovate in 2011 with simply an idea for an innovative product, Innovate assisted with a Worldwide Patent Search followed by Design and Visualisation of the product and Drafting of an initial UK patent application.
Two years after the initial idea submission was made Vex Box has now launched and is available from www.vexbox.com in packs of 10 or 50.

Congratulations to our client Topster, who have confirmed that their product is now available in all ASDA stores nationwide. Topster is a spring loaded pourer top for large plastic milk bottles which enables easier, controlled pouring of milk with less drips.
After watching his children struggle to pour milk from a large 4 litre bottle, Innovate client Steve Thomas realised there was a need for a device which enabled the easier pouring of milk and which helped prevent splashes and drips down the side of the bottle which make a mess. He realised the application would benefit children, the elderly and a wide range of other people.
After coming to Innovate with a rough “blue peter” mock up, Innovate worked on realising this idea into 3D CAD designs and then a number of prototypes, resulting in a commercial prototype.
“When customers write to us and say it has changed their lives or their disabled relatives can regain some independence by pouring their own milk –it is definitely worthwhile! We have sold over 100,000 Topsters since we launched in 2008, appeared on GMTV and BBC Radio. We’ve also won a major award at the British Invention Show – that’s not a bad start! However, we are still at the beginning of the story – with so much more to come!” Steve Thomas.

The ring that helps you break bad habits (by binding your fingers together)
Emma Justice – Daily Mail
‘If all else fails, you can bind your fingers together,’ said a friend, trying to encourage me to give up my ten-a-day smoking habit.
Well, all else did fail and I’m wearing a £6.99 gadget that does exactly that. But will it give hypnotherapist Allen Carr and my nicotine patch a run for their money?
The double-ring Moderator is a bright plastic device that fits so snugly on your middle and index fingers that you can’t open them to hold — let alone light — a cigarette.

Innovate Design features in the most recent issue of New Design Magazine (94). Editor Alastair Welch recently visited our design studios to find out what we do and how we do it.
“The workshop at Innovate Product Design’s Salisbury headquarters feels like a cross between Q’s laboratory for the James Bond films and the set of the BBC business show Dragons’ Den. Amidst the bare-brick walls, machines and gizmos, one half expects to bump into Desmond Llewellyn pitching a fountain pen that fires poisin darts to an unimpressed Duncan Bannatyne. It is a fitting home for a business that specialises in using design to help individual inventors and entrepreneurs realise an idea and take it to market.”

There was success in the Dragons’ Den this week for one of Innovate’s clients Kate Castle with her ingenious solution for those caught short on the move. Kate secured an investment of £50,000 for a 30% stake of her business from retail sector expert Theo Paphitis. After a thorough grilling from the Dragons in the Den, Kate did enough to convince Theo that her product was worth the investment!
Kate approached Innovate originally in 2008 looking for assistance in the development of her idea primarily aimed potentially at the camping and festival market and we were more than happy to help! From here, our team of product designers helped Kate with the development of her concept and have provided support from this point onwards.
