Novelty

Novelty simply means that something is new and unique.  It is a prerequisite for obtaining a patent.  You must have something that is different (or at least has a different functionality than that which is commonly accepted).  Novelty definitions vary globally but are generally absolute and a question of fact.  In the UK an invention must not have been publicly disclosed anywhere, either through manufacture or in literature including patent applications, either domestically or abroad, before the filing of the patent application.
