Meet the Innovate team

The Innovate Design team is diverse and talented, with people from many different backgrounds, ages and levels of experience - however all are highly skilled within their area of expertise - design engineers, researchers, business development professionals and Intellectual Property experts. Below is a little bit of information about each of our team so you can get to know them a bit better!

Alastair Swanwick, Managing Director

Engineering Product Designer Alastair Swanwick founded Innovate in 2002. Since then he has used his extensive knowledge of product development and patenting to refine Innovate's process of effectively developing concepts to assist individuals with new product ideas. He is most often found on the telephone assisting inventors market their ideas or talking to potential new manufacturing or licensing partners.

Alastair is a member of INTIPSA (Intellectual Property Strategists Association)

Della Williams, Patent & Research Manager

Della is a CIPA (Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys) qualified Patent Administrator. Her daily tasks range from initial reviews of ideas, Intellectual Patent Searching through to patenting advice. Della joined Innovate in 2008 and has progressed into the position of research and administration manager. In her spare time she enjoys country walks and off roading.

DESIGN

Tiffany Roddis

Tiffany is a creative and lateral thinker with an aptitude for innovation and design permutation. She graduated from the University of Leeds with two First Class Honours degrees: Master of Design and Bachelor of Design (Product Design). Her skills include problem solving, cad modeling & visualisations. Outside work, her interests include 1960s subculture (60s music and fashion and products), photography, travelling and cooking.

Alex Reid

Alex joined us in 2010. Amongst other things, his talents lie in sketching & visualisation, with a keen approach to problem solving and idea generation. Like all the designers on the Innovate team, his CAD skills are second to none. Outside work, Alex's hobbies include MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), baking, cooking in general (especially cheesecakes) and the gym.

Nick Fowke

Nick graduated from Bournemouth University with a BSc Hons in Product Design in 2008. Having spent three years freelancing and working for another design company, he has joined the Innovate team, bringing with him a wide range of skills including solid modelling, Adobe Suite and sketching. Nick is keen to hone these skills at Innovate and gain more. Outside work he can be found running, playing his guitar or working on his latest VW project.

Lewis Fuller

Lewis is an active individual with a keen interest in design. He graduated with a first class honours degree in BSc Product Design at Nottingham Trent University. His experience comes from numerous positions at design and engineering companies, and from projects whilst studying at a university in Denmark during his placement year.

Chris Hedges

Chris is an inventive designer recently graduated from the University of the West of England with a First Class (Hons) in Product Design Technology. He has a particular interest in user-centered design and enjoys the process of developing simple functional products that meet a true user need. Chris's previous experience includes setting up his own design studio with four peers while on placement from University. Away from work, Chris enjoys competitive sports, distance running and photography.

Chris Haslam

Chris Joined Innovate in 2009 after graduating from Loughborough University. Chris is a very creative individual who has a good eye for product aesthetics and detailing. He enjoys problem solving and concept generation, resulting in products that are functional and great to look at. Chris is also a Team Leader, heading up one of Innovate's design teams. Outside of work, Chris can be found playing sport or in a beer garden socialising with friends.

Anthony Goodier

Anthony graduated from Bournemouth University in 2009 with a BSc Hons in Product Design. Having experience working abroad and on products that are currently on the market, Anthony continues to develop his skills at Innovate Design. Following product design, Anthony has a passion for web related design and spends most of his spare time watching films and listening to or playing music.

Aby Thomas

Aby graduated from Bournemouth University in 2006 with a First Class Hons Degree in Product Design, and joined Innovate in 2009. This is her third experience of consultancy work, after working in London for an Ergonomics Company and in Melbourne, Australia for a Design and Advertising Consultancy. Aby enjoys the client interaction that comes with her job, as well as producing well thought out designs in response to fully understanding the client's initial brief. When not at work Aby enjoys relaxing and playing sports by the beach, she is a keen traveller and uses this as inspiration for painting.

Christian Pichler

Chris joined Innovate in 2011 after graduating with a BSc (Hons) in 3D Product design from the University of Plymouth. His interests lie in designing innovative solutions, both for the consumer and social enterprise markets. Chris's strengths lie in 3D visualisations and the ability to design in a holistic way. Outside work Chris enjoys extreme sports (surfing in particular) and playing guitar.

Clare Schofield

Clare is an inventive designer who recently graduated from Bournemouth University with a First Class (Hons) degree in Product Design. With a broad skill set she seeks to provide innovative product solutions that are central to the user, whilst instilling creative and functional value. Outside of work Clare enjoys baking, watching films and spending time with friends and family.

Aaron Wright

Aaron graduated with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Product Design in 2011 from Bournemouth University. Aaron has a technical yet imaginative approach to problem solving and is passionate about all areas of product design. He enjoys the entire process, from concept generation, to graphic visualisation, model making and prototyping. When not designing, Aaron can be found out and about running or on a board of some description.

PROTOTYPING

Andrew Chandler

Andy graduated from Bournemouth university with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Product Design. He has spent the last 10 years since leaving university working for engineering firms in many different areas of design plying his trade and expanding his knowledge. Outside work he's a family man with two young girls that keep him busy!

Roland Haukaas

Roland has over 15 years experience as a tool and die maker within the prototyping industry. He has a broad experience from the automotive, agricultural, electronics and sports equipment sectors. He is a trained machinist and he has excellent knowledge of toolmaking having worked with plastic injection, sheet metal stamping dies, CNC milling plus all procedures on the machine floor.

Michael Parker

Michael has a diverse skill set, having first worked as a biomedical engineer in New Zealand. He then went on to graduate with an Honours degree in industrial design, and has since had experience within a number of different sectors. Among his work, Michael has designed and engineered baby buggies, airline meal services, super yacht interiors and hand held electronics. Bicycles and yoga fill his free time in the Wiltshire countryside.

RESEARCH & IP

Clio Davies

Clio has been a Client Manager with Innovate since early 2009 and, having launched Innovate's Product Marketing Advisory Service earlier this year, now splits her time between her Client Managerial role and that of Product Marketing Advisor. As well as the day-to-day tasks of idea submission reviews, patent searching and intellectual property advice, Clio also offers consultation services to assist clients in moving forward with their projects. Due to her strong literary background, Clio is also involved in writing articles and copy for Innovate, to provide individuals with a comprehensive understanding of the intellectual property and product marketing procedures. In addition to this, Clio is now a qualified CIPA Patent Administrator.

Jay Short

Jay is a Client Manager at Innovate Product Design. Jay's role is a multi-faceted one, including assisting clients from the initial idea submission stage and being on hand to guide potential inventors through the complicated world of patenting. As well as this, Jay can also help provide assistance with the marketing of an idea worldwide as well as the best way to develop an idea. Outside work, Jay has a keen interest in cricket and football. He plays competitively at both sports at a level that could politely be described as "grass roots", but enjoys it nonetheless!

Robyn Fairweather

Robyn joined Innovate in 2010 as a Client Manager, a role that involves helping clients research, develop and protect their ideas. Being naturally inquisitive, she particularly enjoys the market research side of the role as well as the opportunity to converse with a wide variety of people on a day to day basis. During her time off, Robyn can be found enjoying long walks with her spaniel Lucy, or in a shopping centre.

Tim Mount

Tim Mount is a patent agent and qualified solicitor specialising in all aspects of both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property, and with extensive patent drafting experience. This rare combination is unique to a design firm, and provides Innovate with the valuable perspectives of both a patent expert and a commercial lawyer.

PR & MARKETING

Pam Clover

Pam is responsible for the Marketing and PR at Innovate. Her previous experience covers the full marketing and communications mix including working for McCann-Erickson Advertising Europe, personal finance website Interactive Investor International and PR Newswire Europe, a global news distribution, targeting and monitoring service.

Joely Brown

Joely has completed a Modern Apprenticeship Business Administration at Level 3 whilst working with Innovate; she is also going to start an IAB Certificate in Book-Keeping. In her spare time Joely enjoys riding her horses and walking.

Amber Salmon

Amber is our receptionist and is the first point of contact for all of our clients, be it giving initial advice over the phone or welcoming clients coming in for meetings. She helps with the preparation of client information and reports and is responsible for the input, to our database, of all the fantastic ideas we receive. She also helps the Innovate office run smoothly and makes a mean cup of tea!
